okay i might be beating a dead horse...but this is just starting to tick me off. okay so Jacob's sons go out and kill a townful of men
Genesis 34:25 Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male. 26They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword and took Dinah from Shechem's house and left.27 The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city where their sister had been defiled. 28They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields. 29 They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children, taking as plunder everything in the houses.
and Jacob scolds them for it (hooray for him!). but then in chapter 35
Genesis 35:5 Then they set out, and the terror of God fell upon the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.
...okay so this example is a lot more black and white than the Abra(ha)m/Isaac ones. In Genesis 34:13 it even says that they lied to the men. They steal their women and children, take all their belongings, and oh yeah! THEY KILLED THEM, and God helps them get away.
So yeah this is pretty much the same schpeal as before.
props to Jacob for making them leave behind everything that wasn't theirs.

and no meng meng, the "thought of murder is as bad as murder itself" argument won't work here. Since Simeon and Levi clearly went the whole nine yards with that, and then some.
consider what the alternative would have been if the men had pursued them. God was not about to let them die because He had made a covenant with Abraham already. I think this is an example of God's mercy for the brothers. if we were fairly punished for every sin, we'd be pretty screwed...
So the people they came across were destined to be screwed over?
my mom still thinks that abraham should be screwed

"hey dad, we're back"
"oh yeah where've you been?"
"huh? oh we just saved our sister and killed a whole town..."
"what? bad boy!"
thats it?? -_-
well, if you kill like a bajillion people and then save one, that is kinda stupid. I mean, the least you can do is just save your sister and leave, but instead they go ahead and kill everybody.
